OBITUARY

Carlyn Lee Elders of Robertsville, MO, departed this life on June 8, 2015, in Fenton, MO, having reached the age of seventy-six years, eight months and nineteen days. Carlyn was born in St. Louis, MO, on September 20, 1938, daughter of Walter Gehm and Lillian Josie Gehm nee Chapman. On November 6, 1955, she was united in marriage to Vernon Leroy Elders, Sr. and was blessed to have three children.

Carlyn is survived by her husband, Vernon L. Elders, Sr., of Robertsville, MO; by her son, Vernon L. Elders, Jr. and wife, Deanna, of St. Peters, MO; by her two daughters, Carlyn L. Buffington and husband, Jesse, of DeSoto, MO, and Sylvia Poe and husband, Nathan, of Robertsville, MO; by her brother Jimmy Gehm and wife, Fannie, of Staunton, IL; by four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Carlyn was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lillian Gehm; by two brothers, Edward and David Gehm; and by two sisters, Rosie Gehm and Ruthann McGee.

Carlyn was a Christian and long time devoted member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO. As a young woman she was employed as an assembler for Brown Shoe Company in Union, MO. She later went on to own and operate A-1 Cleaning Company. Carlyn loved animals of all kinds and had a keen appreciation for nature. She enjoyed owning her own horse and riding as often as she could. Going camping and boating with her family were favorite pastimes and many great memories were created. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed doing embroidery. Her hand embroidered pieces will forever be family heirlooms. What meant most to her was her time spent with her family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will forever live in their hearts.

A kind and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO, with the Rev. Glenn Hammond officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to the family. The Elders family entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in Clair, MO.
