OBITUARY

Hellena Ruth Pendegraft of St. Clair, MO, departed this life at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on December 12, 2014, having reached the age of sixty years, nine months and twenty-nine days. Hellena was born in Washington, MO, on February 13, 1954, daughter of Edward Hammett and Myrtle Frances Hammett nee Shoults. On August 11, 1970, she was united in marriage to Donald Leroy Pendegraft and one daughter came to bless this union.

Hellena is survived by her husband, Donald Pendegraft of St. Clair, MO; by her daughter, Tracy Lynn Brickeen and husband, Douglas, Sr., of Cahokia, IL; by her grandchildren, Shevelle Pendegraft of Cahokia, Justin Brickeen of Dupo IL, Douglas Brickeen, JR. o f Cahokia and Alacea Thompson of the state of Maryland; by two brothers, Dennis Hammett and wife, Doris, of Dupo and Willie Hammett and wife, Gloria, of Houston, TX; by one sister, Bertha McAlpin and companion, Roscoe Moore, of Fenton, MO; by three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Hellena was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Myrtle Hammett; by one brother, Billy Hammett; and by two sisters, Virginia Stillman and Dorothy Hammett.

Hellena was a Christian and had been raised in the Pentecostal faith. Throughout her working years, she had been employed as a valve tester for Control Devices in Fenton, MO, retiring after thirty-seven years of service. Hellena was a great cook and loved to cook for her family. Going camping with her grandkids was a favorite pastime. Many great memories were created when she went to the “boat” with her sister. Nothing made Hellena happier that the time she spent with her husband and daughter.

A kind and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. The family of Hellena Pendegraft entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
