Belmont Anthony Hackmann of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Washington, MO, on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, having reached the age of ninety-four years, nine months and thirty days. Belmont was born in Morrison, MO on January 21, 1918, son of Fred Hackmann and Alma Hackmann nee Hennerberger. On February 23, 1942 he was united in marriage to Opal Nevada Bryan and one daughter was born from this union.

Belmont is survived by his wife, Opal Hackmann of St. Clair, MO; by his daughter, Connie Downey and husband, Robert, of Pacific, MO; by one sister, Delores Long of St. Louis, MO; by six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Belmont was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Alma Hackmann; by one daughter, Shirley Hackmann; by one brother, Monroe Hackmann; and by three sisters, Ethel Holcomb, Florence Steinbrook and Beulah Neidhardt.

Belmont was a devoted Christian and member of First Christian Church in Pacific, MO. During his working career, he was a core maker for St. Louis Steel Casting in St. Louis, MO, retiring after thirty-two years of service. Belmont had a variety of interests throughout his life including hunting and fishing. He was an avid reader of the newspaper and enjoyed listening to country gospel music. His love for children and babies was only surpassed by his love for his family. His children and grandchildren held a very special place in his heart, as he did in theirs. The many precious memories they had created together will forever be cherished by them all.

A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, in St. Clair with the Rev. Roger Koster officiating. Interment was in Midlawn Memorial Gardens in Union, MO. Memorials may be made to the family.
