Douglas Rudolph Bell of Villa Ridge, MO, departed this life in Pacific, MO on November 9, 2012, having reached the age of eighty-eight years and one day.

Douglas was born in Villa Ridge on November 8, 1924, son of Oscar Cleveland Bell and Olga Mary Bell nee Schmitz. On August 13, 1949, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Margaret Warnebold and one son came to bless this union.

Doug is survived by his wife, Jeanette Bell of Villa Ridge, MO; by his son, Stephen Bell and wife, Joyce, of Villa Ridge; by his grandchildren, Valarie Bell and fiancé, Jeff Kriebaum, of Labadie, MO, Johnathan Bell of Labadie and Charles Bell of Villa Ridge; by his great-granddaughter, Eva Kriebaum of Labadie; by two sisters, Evelyn Walters of Washington, MO and Laura Bell of Villa Ridge; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Olga Bell; by three sisters, Mildred Harris, Dorothy “Dottie” Reed and Carol Jean “Carrie” Bell; and by two brothers, Donald J. Bell and an infant brother.

Doug was a Christian and life long member of Old Bethel Methodist Church in Labadie, MO. He was proud to have served his country during World War II as a Sergeant in the United States Army, entering September 29, 1944 and receiving his honorable discharge on October 31, 1946. He was a member of Labadie Memorial American Legion Post # 565 of Labadie, MO. He was also a 33rd Degree Mason and member of Gray Summit Lodge # 173 A.F. & A.M. of Gray Summit and a member of the Master of the Royal Secret of the 32 Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Villa Ridge, MO. Doug’s passion was farming, having raised both cattle and horses. In younger years, he was employed as the manager at Powell Lumber Company and later worked for Pacific Lumber Company in Pacific, MO. He was an entrepreneur and had owned and managed rental property throughout his life. He enjoyed many hobbies and interests during his life including hunting, fishing and traveling and was an avid reader. Doug was a family man at heart and nothing meant more to Doug than the time spent with his family. The many wonderful memories that have been created will be treasured by them all forever.

A devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Old Bethel Methodist Church in Labadie, MO with the Rev. Ann Wathum officiating. Interment with full military honors was held in Bethel Cemetery, Labadie, MO. The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
