Priscilla Jane Gauer, known to most as Pat, of Sullivan, MO, departed this life at her home in Sullivan, surrounded by the love of her husband, on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, having reached the age of seventy-two years, seven months and sixteen days. Pat was born in Mt. Hope, MO, on September 9, 1939, daughter of Shelby Silas Whitworth and Olive Marie Whitworth nee Lewis. On September 26, 1957 she was united in marriage to James Robert Gauer and two children came to bless this union.
Pat is survived by her husband, Jim Gauer, Sr., of Sullivan, MO; by her children, Diane Sue Samway and husband, Douglas, of Olathe, KS and the Rev. James R. Gauer, Jr. and wife, Rev. Tammy, of Ankeny, IA; by one brother, Kenneth Whitworth and wife, Wilma, of Fenton, MO; by her grandchildren, Sara Samway and boyfriend, John Hernandez, of Blue Springs, MO, Patrick Samway of Olathe, Emily, Amanda and Evan Gauer of Ankeny; by two step-daughters, Judy Lognion of Sonoma, CA and Nadine “Sissy” Miller and husband, Andy, of Mandeville, LA; by seven step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Shelby and Olive Whitworth; by her step-son, William Gauer; by her step-grandson, William “Skooter” Gauer; and by her sister, Margaret Doyle.
Pat was a devoted Christian and member of the Parkway Church of the Nazarene in St. Clair, MO. She was honored to have served as the Missionary President at the church for thiry years. She had also attended the Sullivan Church of the Nazarene in Sullivan, MO. During her working years, she was employed as a case worker for the Franklin County Division of Family Services. Shopping was Pat’s passion and there was nothing she enjoyed more. She also collected cat memorabilia and figurines. Above all else, spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren gave her the greatest joy and many wonderful memories have been created.
A sweet and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, step-mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation was held after 2:00 PM on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO. Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Parkway Church of the Nazarene in St. Clair with the Rev. Marilyn Coffman and the Rev. Harold Lumley officiating. Interment was in Anaconda Cemetery, St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
