Rev. Floyd Dean Starks, known to all as Dean, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Stanton, MO, departed this life in St. Louis on June 13, 2021, having reached the age of ninety-two years, three months and twenty-four days. Dean was born in Poplar Bluff, MO, on February 20, 1929, son of Willie Starks and Violet Starks nee Young. On May 30, 1948, he was united in marriage to Helen Frances Armistead and three children came to bless this union. On August 20, 2000, he was united in marriage to Ruby Cook nee Smotherman and their families were joined as one.
Dean is survived by his wife, Ruby Starks of St. Louis, MO; by his sons, Ronnie Starks of Union, MO and Michael Starks, Sr. and wife, Judy, of Apache, OK; by his daughter, Debrah Mantle and husband, David, of Union, MO; by his grandchildren, Robyn Starks of Orange Beach, AL, John Starks of House Springs, MO, Michelle Dubray and husband, Marc, of Lawton, OK and Michael Starks, Jr. of Rolla, MO; by his special nephew, Vern Ray Starks and wife, Mimi, of Seattle, WA; by six step-grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, many step-great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Violet Starks; by his wife, Helen Starks; by his step-children, Joellen Woods, Larry Cook and Dennis Cook; by his brothers, Willie Vernon Starks, Marvin E. Starks, Sr. and Raymond Starks, and by his sisters, Myrtle Allen, Syble Browning, Priscilla Hendrix, Naomi Nettell and Melba Grace Starks.
Dean was a member of Sullivan Family Worship Center in Sullivan, MO, and an Ordained Minister in the Bible Way Association for many years. He had served various churches but his longest tenure was served at the Stanton Pentecostal Church in Stanton, MO. He also worked full time as a truck driver and was a retiree of Teamsters’ Local 600 in Maryland Heights, MO. He enjoyed wood working, and especially enjoyed making children’s toys, birdhouses and wishing wells. His passion was horses and he spent time riding walking horses. He also enjoyed watching old western movies and reading old western novels. What meant most to him was time spent with family. The love they shared and the many precious memories they created will live on in their hearts forever.
A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, step-grandfather, great-grandfather, step-great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Sullivan Family Worship Center, 1388 S. Service Rd. West, Sullivan, MO, with the Rev. Duncan Skyles officiating. Interment was in Green Mound Cemetery, St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to Green Mound Cemetery. The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
