OBITUARY

Carolyn Jean Purvis of St. Clair, MO, formerly Mc Kenzie, TN departed this life in St. Louis, MO, on May 8, 2021, having reached the age of eighty-five years, one month and three days. Carolyn was born in Christmasville, TN, on April 5, 1936, daughter of Boyd Whitwell Blackburn, known to all as Boyd Whit, and Cora Blackburn nee Horn. As a young woman, she was united in marriage and blessed to have three children. On October 16, 1996, she was united in marriage to Ivy Leon Purvis, known to all as Leon, and he loved her children as his own.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Rick Hutton and wife, Melissa, of Rolla, MO, Kim Lehman and husband, Bill, of St. Clair, MO and Shari Hutton and husband, Mike Furois, of Phoenix, AZ; by three grandchildren, Madison and Blake Hutton of Rolla and Chrystal Lehman of Michigan City, IN; by one great-grandchild, Kaitlynn Clouse of Michigan City; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Boyd and Cora Blackburn; by her husband, Leon Purvis; by one grandson, Branon Sneed; by three brothers, Hubert, Herbert and James Blackburn, and by three sisters, Maurine Crocker, Montez Pratt and Eugenia Blackburn.

Carolyn was a Christian and member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Gleason, TN. During her working years, she was employed at American Rubber of Laporte, IN, retiring after twenty-five years of service to the company. Carolyn centered her life around her family and made her children and grandchildren her first priority in life. She loved cooking large family meals and keeping up with their lives on face book. In recent years, she enjoyed doing word search puzzles and enjoyed watching afternoon television. The love shared and wonderful memories created with her family will be cherished by them all forever.

A loving and devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life and will be held at a later day. The family entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, MO.
