Donald Eugene Bay, known to most as Don, of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in St. Clair, on May 1, 2021, having reached the age of seventy years, ten months and six days. Donald was born in Washington, MO, on June 25, 1950, son of William Wesley Bay and Anna Bee Bay nee Paris. On March 1, 1980, he was united in marriage to Norma June Thurman nee Wideman and they were blessed to have twenty-one years together. In 2016, he began sharing his life with Dorothy Osborn nee Phillips.

Don is survived by his companion, Dorothy Osborn of St. Clair, MO; by one brother, Darrol Bay and wife, Karen, of Troy, MO; by three sisters, Charlene Farris and husband, Phil, of Tucson, AZ, Cindy Unerstall and husband, Albert, of Washington, MO, and Anita Stephens and companion, Greg Taylor, of Union, MO; by one uncle, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Bay; by one brother, Roger Bay, and by two sisters, Marion Lottmann and Deborah Vermillion.

Don was a Christian, believing in the Lord as his Savior. Donald proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, entering April 27, 1970 and receiving his honorable discharge on April 26, 1974. He was currently a member and Past Commander of VFW Post 2482 in St. Clair, MO and member of the American Legion Post 347 in St. Clair. After his discharge, Don returned to work at Chrysler Daimler in Fenton, MO, retiring after thirty years of service to the company. He was also a retiree of the United Auto Workers, Local 110 of St. Louis, MO. Don enjoyed many hobbies and interests during his life, such as hunting and fishing. He was a great pool player and had played on a championship league. He was also a member of Elk’s Lodge 2651 of St. Clair, MO. Don was most passionate about working at the VFW post and helping fellow veterans. He was often driving veterans to doctor appointment, delivering their medication to them or just lending a helping hand. He loved children and each of his nieces and nephews were special to him.

A kind and loving companion, brother, brother-in-law, nephew, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with fellow veterans and VFW members, Rick Weirich and James Myers officiating. Interment with full military honors was held in Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union, MO. Memorials may be made to VFW Post 2482, St. Clair, MO.
