Obituary
OBITUARY

Neva Mae Gruen of Union, MO, departed this life at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on September 22, 2019, having reached the age of seventy-eight years, one month and twenty-four days. Neva was born in Malden, MO, on July 29, 1941, daughter of Alvie Lape, Sr. and Hazel Lape nee Cox. On June 6, 1959, she was united in marriage to Roland Edward Gruen, Jr., known to all as Butch, and two sons came to bless this union.

Neva is survived by her husband, Butch Gruen of Union, MO; by two sons, Tony Gruen and life companion, Della, of St. Clair, MO and Dennis Gruen and wife, Janel, of Union, MO; by four grandchildren, Luke Gruen and Josh Cassin of St. Clair, Daniel Gruen and wife, Laura, of Union and Matthew Gruen and wife, Tessa, of St. Clair; by three great-grandchildren, Stinson Gruen of Union and twins, Rowan and Dylan Gruen of St. Clair; by two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Neva was a Christian, believing in the Lord as her Savior, and had most recently attended Anaconda Baptist Church, St. Clair, MO. She and her husband, Butch, have owned and operated AD Auction Barn for forty-two years. She played an active roll in the business and had kept the books for the company. Neva was an outdoors person at heart and she was happiest when she was working in her yard, tending cattle and fence, cutting grass and helping her boys to work on anything they were working on. She had enjoyed riding horses and loved animals. She always took care of any stray or orphaned animals, nursing them back to health. In recent years, she enjoyed eating and visiting with friends at Lewis’ Café. Nothing meant more to Neva than her family and the time spent with her children and grandchildren, gave her great joy.

A devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Gary Daud officiating. Interment was in Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union, MO. Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society.
