OBITUARY

Walter Erich Ossendorf, Sr. of St. Clair, MO, formerly Lonedell, MO, known to all as Butch, departed this life at his home on January 23, 2018, having reached the age of seventy-two years, four months and twenty-two days. Butch was born in Hillsboro, MO, on September 1, 1945, son of Henry Ossendorf and Clara Ossendorf nee Singer. As a young man he was united in marriage and blessed to have one son. On September 17, 2005 he was united in marriage to Joanne Roehrs nee Minx and they were blessed to have twelve years together.

Butch is survived by his wife, Joanne Ossendorf of St. Clair, MO; by his step-children, Earl Roehrs and wife, Lisa, of Sullivan, MO and Cyndi Godwin of Poplar Bluff, MO; by his brother, Warren Parker Lewis, known to all as Parker, of Bowling Green, MO; by his sister, Henrietta Penny Mitchell, known to all as Penny, and husband, Dr. Thomas, of St. Clair; by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Clara Ossendorf Lewis; by his step-father, Warren P. Lewis, and by his son, Walter E. Ossendorf, Jr.

Butch was a Christian of the Baptist faith believing in the Lord as his Savior. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, entering on June 17, 1963 and receiving his honorable discharge on February 11, 1972, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard on September 1, 1981, and received his honorable discharge on May 1, 1996, having attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. While in the National Guard he was employed at ABCO Appliance Company in St. Louis, MO and later purchased the company. He was a friendly and outgoing man with a keen sense of humor and he loved people. Butch was an outdoorsman at heart and enjoyed hunting but was passionate about fishing. He loved to spend time with family and the love they shared will never be forgotten.

A kind and loving husband, step-father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held at 7:00 PM Friday, January 26, 2018, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Scott Perry officiating. A private committal will take place at a later date in the Haven of Rest Mausoleum in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
