OBITUARY

Joan Hope Short of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Creve Coeur, MO, January 14, 2016, having reached the age seventy-nine years, six months and twenty-two days. Joan was born in St. Louis, MO on June 22, 1936, daughter of Robert George Stahlman, Sr. and Ethel Adeline Stahlman nee Daniels. On June 28, 1958, she was united in marriage to Donald Ray Short and one daughter came to bless this union.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Maureen Short of St. Clair, MO; by two sisters-in-law Betty Bergmann and husband, Roland, of St. Clair and Kay Dixon of St. Louis, MO; by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Robert, Sr. and Ethel Stahlman; by her husband, Donald Short and by two brothers, Robert, Jr. and George Stahlman.

Joan was a Christian and member of Bethel Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO. In past years, she was an active member and served as a Sunday School teacher. As a young woman living in St. Louis, Joan worked as a clerk for the local Woolworth's Store. After she and Don had married and moved to St. Clair, she went to work at the Meacham Pipe Factory in Washington, MO where she remained for many years. She had enjoyed many hobbies and interests, and during younger years, she and Don had enjoyed the sport of competitive archery and were member of the Twin Rivers Archery Club. She loved animals and had raised rabbits and goats for the past ten years. She was a talented artist and spent time doing oil paintings and other crafts. Joan was very family oriented and enjoyed caring for her home and family.

A devoted and loving mother, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Ben Kingston officiating. Interment was in Bethel Baptist Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to the family.
