Norma Ruth Laker Powers of Lonedell, MO, departed this life at her home in Lonedell, surrounded by the love of her family, on January 11, 2015, having reached the age of sixty-nine years, four months and twenty-two days. Norma was born in Jennings, MO, on August 19, 1945, daughter of Norman Way King and Ruth Estelle King nee Jones. On June 5, 1965 she was united in marriage to Richard Vincent Laker, Jr. and two children came to bless this union. On March 1, 2008, she was united in marriage to Jackie Powers and their families were joined as one.

Norma is survived by her husband, Jackie Powers of Lonedell, MO; by her children, Richard V. Laker, III, known to all as Trey, and companion, Michelle Asher, of St. Clair, MO and Jennifer Sohn and husband, Matt, of Lonedell; by her mother, Ruth Eagan and husband, Dempsey, of O’Fallon, MO; by her grandchildren, Barrett and Jadon Sohn of Lonedell; by her step-children, Mark Powers and wife, Cheryl, of Robertsville, MO, Jason Powers and wife, Michele, of Chowchilla, CA, Velinda Eastham and husband, Robert, of Iron River, MI and Stacie Hatfield and husband, David, of St. Clair; by her sister, Linda Neel and husband, Ed, of St. Albans, MO; by brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her father, Norman King; by her husband, Richard V. Laker, Jr.; and by her infant granddaughter, Sophia Sohn.

Norma was a Christian and member of Bethel Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO. During her working years, she drove a school bus for BK Bus Lines in Lonedell, MO while her children were young. In later years, she worked in the clerical department at St. Clair Die Casting in St. Clair, MO and later at Huttig Building Products in St. Louis, MO. After she retired, she enjoyed traveling in Jack’s motor home and visiting with old friends. Babysitting her grandchildren gave her great joy and she cherished the time they shared.

A devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, daughter, grandmother, step-mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Ben Kingston officiating. Interment was in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, Lonedell, MO.
