OBITUARY

Wayne Eldon Parks of Columbia, IL, formerly St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Cedar Hill, MO, on October 7, 2014, having reached the age of seventy-six years, seven months and twenty-eight days. Wayne was born in St. Clair, MO, on February 9, 1938, son of Roscoe George Parks and Leah Elizabeth Parks nee Wing, known to all as Dollie. As a young man he was united in marriage and blessed to have one son. On October 3, 1982, he was united in marriage to Opal Inez Hassell nee Brown, known to most as Inez, and their families were joined as one.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Inez Parks of Columbia, IL; by one son Dennis Parks and wife, Sandra, of Cedar Hill, MO; by two step-children, Sharon Becker and husband, Paul, of Millstadt, IL and Steven Hassell and girlfriend, Robin, of Hillsboro, MO; by three grandchildren, Brian Parks of Columbia, MO, PFC Michael Wayne Parks and wife, Regan, of Ft. Benning, GA and Donald Mraz and wife, Kate, of Fenton, MO: by one great-granddaughter, Linley Parks of Ft. Benning; by two sisters, Dorothy Minks of Union, MO and Irene Adams of Rolla, MO; by sisters-in-law, Veda Parks of Yakima, WA and Betty Parks of St. Clair; by his brother-in-law, Ed Thornton of Beaufort, MO; by eight step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, other brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Dollie Parks; by three brothers, Clarence, Rolla and infant LeRoy Parks; by three sisters, Hilda Hansel, Joan Thornton and Lillian Minks; and by one step grandchild.

Wayne was a Christian and member of Green Mound Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO. He began his working career as a supervisor for Railway Express Company at Union Station in St. Louis, MO. After that he was employed for many years as a dock supervisor for various trucking companies. He was a member and retiree of Laborerís Local 110 of St. Louis, MO, and for the last eighteen years of his working career, he worked in residential construction. After he retired, he and Inez moved to St. Clair, where he enjoyed raising cattle and enjoyed rural living. He liked to go to auctions and the sale barn, especially enjoying the fellowship of other cattlemen. Riding and raising quarter horses was a favorite pastime. Nothing made him happier than the time spent with his family and many wonderful memories were created. Wayne was a kind and gracious gentleman with a warm smile and a keen sense of humor.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Lindell Vawter officiating. Interment was in Anaconda Cemetery, St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to the Green Mound Baptist Church or to the Alzheimerís Association.
