Louis Edwin Gloriod, known to all as Ted, of Sullivan, MO, departed this life in Rolla, MO, on March 16, 2014, having reached the age of seventy years, seven months and fourteen days. Ted was born in Sullivan, MO, on August 2, 1943, son of Francis “Frank” Arthur Gloriod and Ellen Mary Gloriod nee Cordia. On January 25, 1969, he was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Hayes and two children came to bless this union.
Ted is survived by his wife, Nancy Gloriod of Sullivan, MO; by his son, Louis A. “Lou” Gloriod and wife, RaDawn, of Sullivan; by his daughter, Angie Gloriod of Washington, MO; by his mother-in-law, Geraldine Hayes of Richwoods; by one sister, Ellen Louise Thebeau and husband, Benny, of Cadet, MO; by his sister-in-law, Sharon Witt of Richwoods, MO; by his brother-in-law, Robert Hayes and wife, Sheila M., of Richwoods; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ellen Gloriod.
Ted was a Christian, having been raised in the Catholic faith at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Richwoods, MO. In recent years he had attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Sullivan, MO. Ted was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, entering on January 7, 1966 and receiving his honorable discharge on December 20, 1967, after having attained the rank of SP-4. During his working career, Ted was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Reifsteck & Sons Excavating Company in St. Charles, MO for about thirty-two years. He was also a retiree of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local # 513 of Bridgeton, MO. When not at work, Ted was always busy working on the family farm. Whether baling hay, tending to his Charolais cattle or operating his equipment, Ted enjoyed being outdoors, and especially so with his children. What meant most to him was time spent with his family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will forever live in their hearts.
A loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral mass was held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Richwoods, MO, with Father Robert Liss and Father Paul Telken officiating. Interment was in St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Richwoods. In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred. The family of Ted Gloriod entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
