OBITUARY

Mearl McDaugh Daugherty, Sr. of High Ridge, MO, departed this life on March 9, 2014, in De Soto, MO, having reached the age of seventy-five years, one month and twenty days. Mearl was born in Dora, MO, on January 17, 1939, son of Ewing Daugherty and Frankie Alberta Daugherty nee Tackitt. Mearl was united in marriage to Mona Lee Hafley and five children came to bless this union and he loved her children as his own.

Mearl, Sr. is survived by his wife, Mona Daugherty of High Ridge, MO; by his children, Mearl Daugherty, Jr. of Viburnum, MO, Machelle Milam of High Ridge, Robert Daugherty and finacee′, Misty Sarkis, of Cheshire, MA, Keith Daugherty of Otto, MO and Teresa Love of House Springs, MO; by his step-children, Carol Wirth and husband, Herb, of Imperial, MO, Michael French of St. Louis, MO, Jerry French of House Springs and Cindy Stephens of Logansport, IN; by three sisters, Rose Torlina of the state of North Carolina, Bonnie Ozment and husband, David, of Pendleton, OR and Delores Barker of Deepwater, MO; by eighteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, bothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Mearl, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, Ewing and Alberta Daugherty; by two brothers, Junior Daugherty and Paul Ray Daugherty; and by one sister, Patty Cooper.

Mearl, Sr. was a Christian and as a young man attended the Church of Christ in Elijah, MO , and then later, after moving to this area, attended Church of Christ in House Springs, MO, where he had served as treasurer. During most of his working career, Mearl was employed as a Certified Public Accountant by Millers Tax Service in High Ridge, MO, retiring after forty years of service. He was also a proud member of High Ridge Elks Lodge # 2455. Mearl’s other interests included playing pool, playing computer chess. In his younger years, he had even attained a brown belt in karate. What meant most to him was time spent with his family. His children and grandchildren held a special place in his heart, as he did in theirs. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will be cherished by them all forever.

A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair with the Rev. Micah Dawson. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
