Norma Rae Phillips of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Washington, MO, on June 15, 2013, having reached the age of ninety years, six months and thirty days. Norma was born in Lonedell, MO, on November 16, 1922, daughter of Roy Robert Nappier and Mattie Nappier nee Johnson. In 1940, she was united in marriage to Harry Cartwright and one daughter came to bless this union. In 1943, she was united in marriage to Daniel Robert Phillips, Sr. and two children came to bless this union.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Barbara Phillips Craig of Houston, TX; by her daughter-in-law, Jonell Phillips of St. Clair, MO; by fourteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mattie Nappier; her husband, Harry Cartwright and their daughter, Harriet Cartwright; by her husband, Daniel Phillips, Sr. and their son Daniel R. Phillips, Jr.; by her siblings, Robert, Warren, Ruth and Richard, Nappier; by her son-in-law, Dan Craig; and by one granddaughter, Cheryl Henry.

Norma was a faithful and devoted Christian and life long member of Virginia Mines Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, St. Clair Chapter #96 for over sixty years. She was very proud to have held every station and the title of Past Worthy Matron. She lived in the St. Clair area throughout her life and for several years, she and her husband, Daniel, had owned and operated the Family Bargain Store in St. Clair. In later years, she was employed at R & R Ace in St. Clair, retiring after more than twenty-five years of service. Norma was an active outgoing person who was driving even a year ago and continued to help and serve others. She enjoyed many hobbies and interests throughout her life, including sewing, quilting, embroidery, playing cards and games, especially with the grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her family and having dinner guest after church on Sunday. Norma was also well known for her great pies. She was a kind and gracious lady that was always willing to lend a helping hand to others and cared for her family with kindness and love. She loved children and was happiest when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A devoted and loving mother, mother-in-law, Nana, great and great-great-Nana, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Reverends Bob Herron and Ben Kingston officiating. Interment was in Virginia Mines Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to Virginia Mines Cemetery or to the American Cancer Society.
