Ralph Elmer Yokley, known to many as Duke, of Robertsville, MO, departed this life in Bridgeton, MO, on February 16, 2013, having reached the age of seventy-eight years, one month and fifteen days. Ralph was born in Robertsville, MO, on January 1, 1935, son of Emil C. Yokley and Minnie Yokley nee Perkins. On September 7, 1957, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ernestine Fleming and five children came to bless this union.
Ralph is survived by four children, Wayne Yokley of St. John, MO, Daniel Yokley and wife, Regina, of Webster Groves, MO, Faye McKinley and husband, James, of St. Louis, MO and Gwen Yokley of Robertsville, MO; by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Minnie Yokley; by his wife, Shirley Yokley; by one daughter, Lisa Hunter; by four brothers, Lloyd, George, James and Clyde Yokley; and by two sisters, Nan Royston and Thelma Baker.
Ralph was a devoted Christian and member of Robertsville Temple Church of God in Christ in Robertsville, MO. He was a past member of the Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ in Webster Groves, MO. He was a retiree of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 513 of Bridgeton, MO. He was employed for over thirty years for Kozeny Wagner Construction Company of St. Louis, MO, as a heavy equipment operator and later as a mechanic. Ralph was an outgoing man with a love for life. As a young man, he rode bulls in the rodeo circuit and also rode motorcycles. For many years he rode his Harley Davidson with the Shriners. He was a great mechanic and working on cars and trucks was a favorite pastime. Nothing made Ralph happier than the time he spent with his family and many wonderful memories were created.
A kind and loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the Rose Hill Baptist Church in Villa Ridge, MO, with Pastor Kenneth Lawson officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Villa Ridge, MO. The Yokley family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
