Alice Jane Wideman of Washington, MO, formerly St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Washington on November 3, 2012, having reached the age of ninety-four years, six months and one day. Alice was born on May 2, 1918, in Goodwater, MO, daughter of John Smith and Mary Smith nee Worley. On June 14, 1935, she was united in marriage to Walter Leroy Wideman, known to all as Roy, and two sons came to bless this union. On November 22, 1975, she was untied in marriage to George Washington Wideman and their families were joined as one.

Alice is survived by two sons, Leon Wideman and wife, Sherry, of Washington, MO and Don Wideman and wife, Dolores, of St. Clair, MO; by two step-children, Erna Covert and husband, Ed, of Pacific, MO and Jean Klein and husband, Harry, of Ellisville, MO; by five grandchildren, Eric Wideman and wife, Tonya, of Washington, Erin Wideman and wife, Machelle, of Washington, Ryan Wideman and wife, Stephanie, of Barnhart, MO, Donna Silva and husband, Manny, of the state of Arizona and Dustin Wideman of St. Petersburg, FL; by seven great-grandchildren; by ten step-grandchildren, Norma McKay; Charlie Covert and wife, Rosalie; Barbara Hill and husband Trigger; Jay Covert; David Covert and wife, Judy; Mary Haynie and husband, John; Russell Covert; Steve Stranz; Brad Stranz; and Chris Anderson and husband, Jim; by many step-great-grandchildren; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Smith; by her husband, Roy Wideman; by her husband, George Wideman; by two brothers, Jim and Grover Smith; and by two sisters, May Taylor and an infant sister.

Alice was a devoted Christian and had been a member for about fifty-seven years of First Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO. She had been employed as a sales clerk for R & R Ace Hardware in St. Clair for about thirty years. Alice was an outgoing lady and had remained very active until about two years ago. She had continued to enjoy gardening and liked feeding the birds and was especially fond of Cardinals. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed doing crochet and quilting. One of her favorite pastimes was cooking and baking and she loved making her family their favorite pies and dishes. The abundance of love and wonderful memories the family has shared together will be cherished by them all.

A devoted and loving mother, mother-in-law, step-mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, step-grandmother and great-grandmother, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with the Rev. Roger Johnson officiating. Interment was in Wideman Cemetery, Grubville, MO. Memorials may be made to Gideonís International.
