Lena Keen, known to some as Leona, of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in St. Clair on June 13, 2012, having reached the age of eighty-seven years, five months and fifteen days. Lena was born in Robertsville, MO on December 29, 1924, daughter of Zach Keen and Hattie Keen nee Huff. In 1945 she was united in marriage to Edwin Lee Hampton and eight children came to bless this union.

Lena is survived by her daughters, Delita Lucas of St. Clair, MO and Venita Brant of St. Clair; by five grandchildren, Marlo Light of Roseville, CA, Steven Henderson and wife, Valerie, of Bourbon, MO, Christina Catalano and companion, Tony Guiffrida, of St. Clair, Angelena Busse and husband, Garry, of St. Clair and Gerald Lucas of Salem, MO; by six great-grandchildren, Jacob and Caroline Light, Cody and Felicity Henderson, Selena Catalano and Zackary Busse; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents, Zach and Hattie Keen; by six infant children; by two brothers, Sarch Keen and infant Howard Keen; and by five sisters, Nellie Hedgecoth, Elsie Johnson, Evie Wideman, Gladys DeClue and infant Emma Keen.

Lena was a Christian, believing in the Lord as her Savior. As a young woman she had been employed by Carmo Shoe Company in Union, MO and Deb Shoe Company in St. Clair. For twenty-two years she was employed as a Certified Nurses’ Aide at Sunset Nursing Home in Union, MO. Lena had a variety of interests and past-times throughout her life; including planting flowers, gardening and cooking. She was very artistic and loved do crafts and sew. Singing and listening to music were other favorite pastimes. In her younger years she loved to dance and go “honky-tonking”. Lena especially liked to dress up for Halloween, which everyone seemed to get a real kick out of. Most of all, Lena loved to spend time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as “Mammy”. The many wonderful memories they had created together will forever be cherished by them all.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great and great-great aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 15, 2012 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair with the Rev. Jimmie Jorden officiating. Interment was at Midlawn Memorial Gardens in Union, MO. Memorials may be made to the family.
