Mary Isabella Evans of St. Johns, MO departed this life on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in Maryland Heights, MO, having reached the age of eighty-four years, four months and two days. Mary was born in St. Clair, MO on October 26, 1927, daughter of Lewis Ashby Strickler and Sylvia Geneva Strickler nee Pierce. On July 27, 1945, she was united in marriage to John Russell Evans and one son came to bless this union.

Mary is survived by her son, John Alan Evans and wife, Denise, of St. Johns, MO; by her sister-in-law, Carolyn Scheer of Union, MO; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Sylvia Strickler; by her husband, John R. Evans; by two brothers, Edward and Harold Strickler; and by three sisters, Pauline “Etta” Fields, Edna May Klumpp and Mable M. Hulsey.

Mary was a Christian believing in the Lord as her savior. She had made caring for her home and family her career in life and took pride in all she did. Mary was an outgoing lady with many hobbies and interests. In younger years, she enjoyed archery, bowling and playing volleyball. In more recent years she enjoyed doing various crafts. Nothing made her happier than the time and love she shared with John and Denise. The many wonderful memories they created together made her very happy.

A kind and loving mother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with the Rev. Russell Wagner officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Cemetery, Lonedell, MO.
