Gwendolyn Mary Stahlman, known to most as Gwen, of St. Clair, MO departed this life in St. Clair, having reached the age of eighty-seven years, seven months and thirteen days. Gwen was born in Grubville, MO on February 22, 1924, daughter of Thomas Scott Reed and Lora Victoria Reed nee Wilson. On August 22, 1943 she was united in marriage to Eugene Charles Stahlman and two children came to bless this union.
Gwen is survived by her children, Tom Stahlman of Union, MO and Gloria Jean Yoder of St. Clair; by her grandchildren, Kristi Stahlman of St. Clair, Tyrona Thiemann and husband, Michael, of Wildwood, MO, Kim Flora and husband, Dink, of St. Clair and Jennifer Duncan and husband, David, of St. Clair; by her great-grandchildren, Thomas Thiemann of Wildwood, Carson Flora of St. Clair, and Madelyn Duncan and Liam Duncan of St. Clair; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lora Reed; by her husband Eugene Stahlman; and by three brothers, Clifford, Coen and Vander Reed.
Gwen was a Christian of the Baptist faith, loved God with all her heart and was a charter member of St. Clair Southern Baptist Church in St. Clair where she spent many years as a Sunday school teacher. She was very involved in the Women’s Missionary Union. During her working years, she was employed at International Shoe Company in St. Clair, retiring after many years of service. Gwen loved to be outdoors, whether it was cutting grass or working in her flower beds. She loved her family, and made it a point to talk to them everyday. Gwen always enjoyed having her family get together for birthdays and holidays and such. The time spent with them was filled with joy and love and all the precious memories they created together will be treasured forever.
A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great and great-great aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation was held after 2:00 PM on Friday, October 7, 2011 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home and after 9:00 AM on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at St. Clair Southern Baptist Church, St. Clair. Funeral services were at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 8, 2011 at St. Clair Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Savage officiating. Interment was in Green Mound Cemetery in St. Clair. Memorials may be made to Green Mound Cemetery or St. Clair Southern Baptist Church.
