Douglas Gordon King of St. Clair, MO departed this life in Creve Coeur, MO on August 1, 2009, having reached the age of seventy-one years, three months and twelve days. Doug was born in Lonedell, MO on April 20, 1938, son of Richard Gilbert King and Cleona Jewell King nee Lewis. On July 31, 1965, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Martin and four children came to bless this union.
Doug is survived by his wife, Dorothy King of St. Clair; by his children, Sheila Marler and husband, Tom, of St. Clair, Tracy King of Pacific, MO, Bobby King, Marcie King and Ariel Jones all of St. Clair; by two sisters, Myra “Tiny” Dace and husband, Benton, Jr., of St. Clair and Lois Ealer and husband, Jim, Sr., of St. Clair; by one foster brother, William Bess and wife, Martha, of St. Clair; by thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Gilbert” and Cleona King; and by one brother, Richard “Dick” King.
Doug was a Christian and member of Assembly of God Church in St. Clair. He had lived in the area though out his life and was well known to many. He was self employed, working in the asphalt business for most of his life. Coon hunting was his passion and he was a founding member of the Franklin County Fox and Wolf Hunters Association. He was also a member of the MO State Coon Hunters, the St. Louis County Coon Club and the St. Clair Saddle Club. He was an outdoors man at heart and enjoyed many outdoor activities. He loved listening to gospel music and playing cards with his grandkids was a favorite pastime. Doug loved people and never knew a stranger. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others and was happiest when surrounded by his family.
A devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, nephew, uncle, great and great-great uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation was held after 3:00 PM Monday, August 3, 2009 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair. Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Assembly of God Church in St. Clair with the Rev. Lynn Stroup and the Rev. David Keck officiating. Interment was in Cove Cemetery, St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to the family.
