Hazel May Sohn of St. Clair, MO departed this life in St. Clair on March 15, 2011 having reached the age of ninety-one years, three months and twenty-seven days. Hazel was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas on November 16, 1919, daughter of Samuel F. Cantrell and Annie Cantrell nee Benton. On January 29, 1937, she was united in marriage to George Edward Sohn and they were blessed to have two children.

Hazel is survived by her children, Betty Reed and husband, Frank, of St. Clair and Bruce Sohn and wife, Tina, of St. Clair; by ten grandchildren, Jerry Reed and wife, Kim, of St. Clair, Terry Reed and wife, Mary, of Albuquerque, NM, Christina Fogg and husband, Robert, of St. Clair, Rebecca Johnson and husband, Nick, of Union, MO, Issac Sohn and wife, Jessica, of St. Clair, Jacob Sohn and wife, Amy, of St. Clair, Rachel Rodman and husband, Mark, of St. Clair, Mekaela Gross, Sarah Sohn and Mariah Sohn, all of St. Clair; by one sister, Grace Bailey of St. Clair; by seventeen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great, great-great and great-great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Annie Cantrell; by her husband, George Sohn; by three brothers, Everett Cantrell and two infant brothers; by three sisters, Cora Washburn, Gladys White and Mary Simpson; and by one great grandchild, Kaleb Stone.

Hazel was a Christian of the Baptist faith and member of Cave Springs Baptist Church in Sullivan, MO. In recent years, she had attended the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Moselle, MO. In the 1950s she was a member of the Providence Baptist Church and had served as the church Secretary for several years. Hazel had made caring for her home and family her career in life and she never tired of her job. She loved to spend time in her garden and enjoyed raising beautiful flowers. Doing embroidery and quilting were other favorite pastimes. Above all else, keeping up with the lives her family and many grandchildren was her favorite hobby. She was happiest when she was spending time with family and many wonderful memories have been created.

A kind and loving mother, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great, great-great and great-great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair with the Rev. Chauncey Clay officiating. Interment was in Prospect Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church, PO Box 17, St. Clair, MO 63077.
