Gerald Albert Suermann, known to all as Jerry, of Union, MO, formerly St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Washington, MO, on January 8, 2021, having reached the age of seventy-nine years, three months and eight days. Jerry was born in St. Louis, MO, on September 30, 1941, son of Walter J. Suermann and Adele Suermann nee Gudermuth. As a young man, he was united in marriage and blessed to have three sons. On May 26, 1984, he was united in marriage to Sharon Ann Desnoyer nee Wall and their families were joined as one.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Sharon Suermann of Union, MO; by four children, Neil Suermann and wife, Mary of Glen Carbon, IL, Craig Suermann of Illinois, Steven Desnoyer and wife, Serina, of San Antonio, TX, and Jennifer Light of St. Clair, MO; by one sister, Shirley Welch of St. Louis, MO; by fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Adele Suermann; by two sons, Jeffrey and Scott Suermann, and by one brother, Ronald Suermann.

Jerry was a Christian and long-time member of The Ridge Church in Villa Ridge, MO. He was proud to have served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army, entering July 28, 1961 and receiving his honorable discharge on July 15, 1964. Jerry had worked in sales during most of his working years, having been employed by Washington Tractor Company in Washington, MO and later at Bud Anderson Chevrolet, collectively about fifteen years. He then went on to become a department manager at Wal Mart in Union, MO, retiring after about fifteen years of service to the company. Jerry was a very patriotic and civic minded man that had been an active member of the community for many years. When his sons were young, he had been an active Boy Scout leader. He was a member of the Easter Lodge 575, AF and AM, Order of Eastern Star, St. Clair Chapter 96, St. Clair Elk’s Lodge 2651, American Legion Post 347, past Kiwanis member and former Kiwanis member of the year. He was Past President and member of both the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and Society of Plastics Engineers, both in St. Louis, MO. He was also co-owner and co-founder with his wife, Sharon, of Jerron’s Cakes, Candies and Catering, in St. Clair, MO. Jerry enjoyed many hobbies during his life, but his favorite had been taking Sharon dancing. He enjoyed working in his yard, playing golf, and taking trips with his wife and family. Nothing made him happier than the time spent with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they will miss his keen sense of humor.

A devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
