On April 27, 1968, he was united in marriage to Faye Darlene Magill, known to all as Darlene, and two daughters came to bless this union.

Howard is survived by his wife, Darlene Smith of St. Clair, MO; by his daughters, Tracy Koelling and husband, Landon, and Pamela McCutchen and husband, Kevin, all of St. Clair; by six grandchildren, Victoria Pelton Rost and husband, Jeremiah, Kinsley Koelling, Lawson, Dawson and Emily McCutchen, all of St. Clair and Ashley Pelton of Nashville, TN; by two sisters, Sharon Hagan and husband, Bill, of Buffalo, MO and Sandy Shay and husband, John, of Independence, MO; by six great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Howard was a devoted Christian and current member of Christ Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO. In past years, he was a twenty-five-year member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and was proud to have taught the Adult Sunday School Class for twenty-four years. He was proud to have served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Airforce. He was a member of the VFW Post 2482 and Elk’s Lodge 2651, both in St. Clair, MO. During his working years, he was employed by General Motors as a repairman, retiring after thirty years of service to the company.
