Obituary
OBITUARY

Roberta Louise Duckworth of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Sullivan, MO, on November 17, 2020, having reached the age of eighty-four years, eight months and ten days. Roberta was born in Paducah, KY, on March 7, 1936, daughter of Edgar Eugene Fondaw and Frances Berenice Fondaw nee Jarboe. On August 25, 1956, she was united in marriage to Gene Arnold Duckworth and four children came to bless this union.

Roberta, affectionately known to her family as Meme, is survived by three children, Kenneth Duckworth of Imperial, MO, Elizabeth Gallina and husband, Paul, of Millington, TN and Paula Wagner and husband, Russell, of Lonedell, MO; by three sisters, Petty Mitchell and Annie Bailey, both of Wadsworth, OH and Mary Alice Vandermeulen of Johnson City, TN; by sixteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Frances Fondaw; by her husband, Gene Duckworth; by one son, Lawrence Duckworth; by one great-granddaughter, Jordan Smith; by her daughter-in-law, Danette Duckworth, and by two sisters, Dorothy Miller and Elizabeth Okdie.

Roberta was a Christian and current member of Grace Baptist Church in Union, MO, where she had been baptized. During her working years, she was employed as a cook for the St. Clair Public School District, having worked in that capacity for about twenty years. She was an outgoing lady with many hobbies and interests. She was an avid fan of the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals, as well as the Kentucky University basketball team, enjoying watching their games on television. She had a great interest in family genealogy and has kept track of the family’s heritage. Reading was another of her favorite pastimes. Nothing made Roberta happier than the time she spent with her children and grandchildren and many wonderful memories were created.

A devoted and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Committal services were held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 22, 2020, at the Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis, KY with Paul Gallina officiating. The family was served by the Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, KY.
