OBITUARY

Ethel Louise Bruns of St. Clair, MO, departed this life suddenly at her home, on October 14, 2020, having reached the age of eighty years, three months and nineteen days. Ethel was born in Badger, Newfoundland, Canada, on June 25, 1940, daughter of Archibald Raymond May, known to most as Arch, and Amelia Grace May nee Peddle, known to all as Grace. On June 19, 1963, she was united in marriage to William Arthur Bruns, II, known to all as Bill, and three sons came to bless this union.

Ethel is survived by her sons, William Arthur Bruns, III, known to all as Art, of St. Clair, MO, Col Archibald Eric Bruns (ret), known to some as Eric and to others as Arch, and wife, Ingrid, of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX and James Bruns, known to most as Jim, and wife, Carol, of Cedar Park, TX; by five grandchildren, Chandler Bruns, of Denver, CO, Kelsey Bruns of Lubbock, TX, Alex Bruns and fiancé, Evan Harris of Vancouver, WA; Madison Bruns of San Jose, CA and Jacob Bruns of Cedar Park; by six siblings, Eric May and wife, Ann, of Flat Rock, Newfoundland, Dennis May and wife, Linda, of St. Clair, Dorothy Wight and husband, Jim, of Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Amelia Loder, known to all as Millie, and husband, Clarence, of Mt. Pearl, Newfoundland, Elizabeth Poole and husband, Claude, of Badger, Newfoundland and Paula Bridger and husband, Woodrow, of Badger; by three sisters-in-law, Heidi May of Comax, British Columbia, Jane Bruns of Sullivan, MO and Mary Vieten of Leslie, MO; by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Arch and Grace May; by her husband, Bill Bruns, and by two siblings, Harvey May and Margaret May.

Ethel was a Christian and member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO. For about twenty years, she was employed as a front desk clerk at Super 8 Hotel in St. Clair, MO. She enjoyed many hobbies and interests, especially knitting and cooking. Since her retirement, her favorite pastime was traveling and she loved to visit her family in Texas and Newfoundland. She was very fond of her beloved dog, Buddy. Her family was truly her pride and joy and she cherished the love and memories that were created with each of them.

A devoted and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Jeff Scott officiating. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, PO Box 368, Woodland Hills, CA 91365.
