OBITUARY

Harry Monroe Benton, Sr., known to most as Monroe, of St. Clair, MO, departed this life at his home on October 14, 2020, having reached the age of fifty-nine years, nine months and twenty-three days. Monroe was born in Washington, MO, on December 21, 1960, son of Roy Elza Francis Benton, known to most as Elzie, and Jenny Alice Benton nee Hawkins. On May 26, 1984, he was united in marriage to Janet Isabelle Lucas nee Deaton and one son came to bless this union and he loved her sons as his own.

Monroe is survived by three sons, Harry Monroe Benton, Jr. of St. Clair, MO, John D. Lucas of Pacific, MO and Columbus Lucas of Robertsville, MO; by one granddaughter, Mackenzie Benton of St. Clair; by his former wife, Janet Benton of St. Clair; by six siblings, Johnnie Benton and wife, Georgia, of Donny Benton, Donald Benton, known to most as Coke, and girlfriend, Amanda, and Roy Benton and wife, Melony, all of St. Clair, Kenneth Benton and wife, Tammy, of Bunker, MO and Elsie Jane Bourbon and husband, Sam, of Owensville, MO; by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Monroe was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie and Jenny Benton, and by three siblings, Eddy Ray Benton, Roger Benton and Sally Fields.

Monroe had lived in St. Clair throughout his life. In his younger years, when his health allowed, he had worked at various jobs in the area. He had always enjoyed scraping metal. He was a very friendly man and would help out anyone. Time spent with his children and granddaughter gave him great joy and many memories were created.

A kind and caring father, grandfather, former husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Fern Nye officiating. Interment was in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair, MO.
