Robert Willard Smith of St. Clair, MO, known to most as Bob, departed this life in Creve Coeur, MO, on January 25, 2020, having reached the age of eighty-one years, ten months and nineteen days. Robert was born in St. Louis, MO, on March 6, 1938, son of Elmer Edward Smith and Mildred Margaret Smith nee Schreiner. In November of 1999 he was united in marriage to Patricia Pendergrass nee Rutledge and he loved her children as his own.

Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia Smith of St. Clair, MO; by four children, Robert Kelso and wife, Tammy, of St. Clair, Vanessa Stiles of Festus, MO, Cindi Woodcock and husband, Todd, of St. Clair and Gina Penberthy and husband, Blake, of Sullivan, MO; by one brother, Gary Smith and wife, Pat, of St. Louis, MO; by one sister, Karen Wofford and husband, Rod, of Jacksonville, TX; by five grandchildren, Jewel and Brock Woodcock of St. Clair, Reagan and Kate Thomure of Sullivan and David Davis and fiancée, Michelle, of Festus; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mildred Smith.

Bob was a Christian and member of St. Clair Southern Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army. After high school, Bob had furthered his education at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, obtaining his degree as a structural engineer. He had most recently been employed by and retired from, Hammert’s Iron Works in St. Louis, MO. Bob had a passion for model trains, even building his own huge train set which he loved sharing with the grandchildren. He was an active man and was always busy caring for his home and yard. He enjoyed sports cars of all kinds and going on drives. He cherished the time he spent with the grandchildren for they were his pride and joy. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will live on in their hearts forever

. A devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 31, 2020, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with the Rev. Bill Savage officiating. Interment was in Crestview Memorial Park in St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to St. Clair Southern Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO.
