OBITUARY

James Edward Modglin, known to most as Jim, of Luebbering, MO, departed this life in Creve Coeur, MO, on November 7, 2019, having reached the age of fifty-three years, five months and twelve days. Jim was born in St. Louis, MO, on May 25, 1966, son of Edward Lee Modglin and Nancy Virginia Modglin nee Freebern. As a young man he was united in marriage and blessed to have two sons.

Jim is survived by one son, Danny Modglin of Sullivan, MO; three grandchildren, Alice, Scarlet and Wesley Modglin, all of Union, MO; by one brother, Stephen Modglin and wife, Sandra, of Hillsboro, MO; by two sisters, Michelle Hunt and husband, Bob, of Lonedell, MO and Kathleen Woods and husband, Chris, of Hazelwood, MO; by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Nancy Modglin, and by one son, Thomas Modglin.

Jim was a Christian, having been raised in the Lutheran faith, accepting the Lord as his Savior. He was a military man at heart, entering the United States Navy on January 16, 1987. He served in Desert Shield on the USS Saratoga. Jim had reenlisted in the Navy for seven years when he was severely injured while in active duty. He was honorably discharged on November 20, 1991. He was a life-time member of VFW Post 3987 of Sullivan, MO. Jim was an outdoorsman at heart and loved to hunt and fish. Searching for and collecting arrowheads was another hobby. In recent years, he was happiest when he was spending time with his grandchildren, taking them out to eat and taking them shopping.

A kind and loving father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with Rev. Ben Kingston officiating. Interment with full military honors was in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
