Lorene Ruff of Washington, MO, departed this life in St. Clair, MO, on October 27, 2019, having reached the age of eighty-one years, eight months and fifteen days. Lorene was born in Corning, AR, on February 12, 1938, daughter of Ross Albert Hollis and Essie Dale Hollis nee O’Daniel. As a young woman she was united in marriage and blessed to have three children. On May 21, 1966, she was united in marriage to Carter Edwin Ruff, Jr. and one daughter came to bless this union.
Lorene is survived by two daughters, Lynn Bowers of St. Clair, MO, and Carla Robin Prater and husband, Steven, of Grubville, MO; by nine grandchildren, Ashley Debrecht and husband, Mark, of St. Clair, Whitney Pelton and fiancé, B.J. Baynes, of St. Clair, Jacob Prater of Luebbering, MO, Dustin Prater of St. Clair, Lacey Marrocco of St. Clair, William Lackey of St. Charles, MO, Justin Lackey, of New Melle, MO, Angie Johnson and Stacey Battles; by four brothers, Eugene Hollis and wife, Kathy, of St. Charles, MO, John Hollis and wife, Barb, of St. Ann, MO, Jerry Hollis and wife, Cathy, of ST. Ann and David Hollis and wife, Anita, of Breckenridge, MO; by eleven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Essie Hollis; by her husband, Carter Ruff, Jr.; by one infant son, Allen Bowers, and by one brother, Mickey Hollis.
Lorene was a Christian of the Baptist faith, believing in the Lord as her Savior. She had worked outside the home for a few years as a housekeeper in the motel industry. Her greatest joy was caring for her home and family and she never tired of her job. She was a great mom and grandma and she cherished the time spent with her daughters and grandchildren. In her younger years, she had been an avid reader. Lorene was a kind and caring person who was willing to lend a helping hand to others. She gave her final gift when she donated her body to science.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
