Celeste Ann Hughes of Lonedell, MO, departed this life in Washington, MO, on October 6, 2019, having reached the age of seventy-two years, seven months and twenty-one days. Celeste was born in Washington on February 15, 1947, daughter of Robert Eckelkamp and Dorothy Eckelkamp nee Pierick. On January 21, 1967, she was united in marriage to David Eugene Hughes and three children came to bless this union.

Celeste is survived by her husband, David Hughes, known to most as Dave, of Lonedell, MO; by her chidren, Tina Hughes of St. Clair, MO, David Hughes and wife, Angela, of Lonedell and Nichole Thebeau of St. Clair; by four brothers, Dennis Eckelkamp and wife, Margo, of Union, MO, Mark Eckelkamp and wife, Terry, of Union, Jimmy Eckelkamp and wife, Krista, of Union and Bobby Eckelkamp of Union; by her sister, Marilyn Lueb of Union; by her aunt, Virginia Pierick of Union; by three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Celeste was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Eckeldamp; by one brother, Glen Eckelkamp; by one grandson, Austin Gasaway, and by her brother-in-law, Gerald Lueb.

Celeste was a Christian of the Catholic faith and longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Luebbering, MO. She was very active in the church and enjoyed helping in whatever capacity was needed. During her working career she was employed for many years at Von Weise Gear Company in St. Clair, MO as a set-up operator. She was an avid reader and loved to travel. In the past she had traveled to China, Thailand and Bermuda and had gone to Hawaii for her twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Celeste had driven to Maine three years ago, enjoying the trip immensely. She was talented at crocheting and had crocheted wash towels every year at Christmas. What meant most to her was time spent with her family. The love they shared and many memories they created will be remembered forever.

A kind and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, niece, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life will take place from 1:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2019, at the St. Francis of Assisi Hall in Luebbering, MO. A private committal will take place at a later date. The family of Celeste Ann Hughes entrusted the care of their loved to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
