OBITUARY

Mary Elizabeth Reed, known to all as Libby, of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in St. Clair, surrounded by the love of her family, on June 28, 2019, having reached the age of eighty-two years, nine months and three days. Libby was born in St. Clair on July 25, 1936, daughter of Harold Eugene Hoff and Mary Alma Marie Hoff nee McCrary. On May 3, 1958, she was united in marriage to Vernon Lee Reed and five children came to bless this union.

Libby is survived by three sons, Gordon Reed and significant other, Karen Parker, of St. Clair, Paul Reed and significant other, Noreen Williams, of St. Clair and Chris Reed and wife, Angel, of O’Fallon, MO: by two daughters, Judy VanNess and husband, Donald, and Michelle Reed and significant other, John Dingledine, all of St. Clair; by two sisters, Joan Burnett and husband, Ken, and Carol Rae Todisman and husband, Jim, all of St. Clair; by siblings-in-law, Rosie and Joyce Hoff of St. Clair and Galib Baqir of Houston, TX; by seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Libby was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mary Hoff; by her husband, Vernon Reed; by son and daughter-in-law, Beth Reed and John Whitworth; by four grandsons, Jason and Nathan VanNess and Seth and Jasper Williams; by three brothers, Harold Hoff, known to all as Bud, and Richard and John Hoff, and by three sisters, Dorothy Anderson, Fern Baqir and Jean Russell Redhage.

Libby was a devoted Christian and life long member of Bethel Baptist Church, Lonedell, MO. As long as her health allowed, she had been an active member of the church. In past years, she had taught Sunday school, served the bus ministry, worked at vacation Bible school and worked in the church kitchen. During her working years, she had been employed at Carmo Shoe Company, Hoff Cleaners and had baby sat in her home. Her most recent job was working as a custodian at East Central College in Union, MO, retiring after fifteen years. Libby was full of life and was always smiling and laughing. She loved to sing, especially with her sisters. She was a great cook and loved cooking for her family. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her children and grandchildren and many wonderful memories were created.

A loving and sweet mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 1, 2019, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Ben Kingston officiating. Interment was in Bethel Baptist Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to the cemetery.
