Virginia Lee DeWeese Mizer of Lonedell, MO, departed this life in Washington, MO, on May 15, 2019, having reached the age of eighty-seven years, nine months and twenty-four days. Virginia was born in Rush Island, MO, on August 21, 1931, daughter of Joseph Schaffer and Elizabeth Schaffer nee Pohlman. On November 20, 1948, she was united in marriage to William Elbert DeWeese and four sons came to bless this union. On November 20, 1968, she was united in marriage to Richard Mizer, known to all Dick, and they were blessed to have thirty-four years together.
Virginia is survived by two sons, Lee DeWeese and wife, Marsha, of Fayetteville, NC and Dale DeWeese and wife, Deb, of Lonedell, MO; by her special niece, Cindy Elliott and husband, Terry, of Union, MO; by nine grandchildren, Katita Garcia and husband, Miguel, of Roseboro, NC, Katrina McCoy and husband, Randy, of Blowing Rock, NC, Billy DeWeese and wife, Tarlie, of Union, Casey Sturges of Tumball, TX, Matt DeWeese and wife, Randi, of Union, Justin DeWeese and wife, Stacey, of St. Clair, MO, Ben Hagerman of Kansas City, MOK, Sophia Werth and husband, Shawn, of Delphi, IN and William Hagerman and wife, Erin, of Lincoln, IL; by one brother, William Schaffer and wife, Loretta, of Washington, DC; by two sisters, Mary Pender of Orlando, FL and Joann Portell and husband, Steve, of St. Charles, MO; by eleven great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Schaffer; by her husbands, William DeWeese and Dick Mizer; by two sons, William Leon DeWeese and Dennis DeWeese: by one brother, Jim Schaffer, and by one great-grandchild, Tyler Werth.
Virginia was a Christian and member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Luebbering, MO. She had bought and sold livestock throughout most of her life and for twenty years was the co-owner of the St. Clair Livestock Auction in St. Clair, MO. She was an active, outgoing lady and when her boys were young served as a 4-H leader and was active in the St. Clair Saddle Club. She was a charter member and Past President of the St. Clair Elk’s Lodge 2651 Ladies Auxiliary. Virginia was a great cook and loved working in her yard and raising beautiful flowers. In recent years she enjoyed eating at Linda’s Café, now known as Finish Line, in Lonedell where she enjoyed the fellowship of many friends. She was a kind and caring person that would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her children and grandchildren were truly her pride and joy and she cherished the time they spent together.
A devoted and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, special aunt, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 20, 2019, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with Father Eric Kunz officiating. Interment was in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
