OBITUARY

Shirley Mae Muehlenbeck Whitaker of St. Clair, MO, formerly Lonedell, MO, departed this life at her home on February 8, 2019, having reached the age of eighty-four years, five months and twenty-six days. Shirley was born in St. Louis, MO, on August 12, 1934, daughter of James S. Medlin Sr. and Eleanor Medlin nee Boeck. On August 11, 1962, she was united in marriage to Harold Emmett Muehlenbeck and four children came to bless this union. On March 13, 1993, she was united in marriage to DeVere Joseph Whitaker, known to all as Sam, and one daughter blessed this union and their families were joined as one.

Shirley is survived by one son, Scott Muehlenbeck and wife, Natalie, of Lonedell, MO; by three daughters, Connie McKinney and husband, Mark, of St. Louis, MO, Marilyn Kiefer and husband, Tom, and Jesse Whitaker, all of St. Clair, MO; by one brother, Paul Medlin of Texas; by one sister, Sandra Rocco and husband, John, of St. Louis; by twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Muehlenbeck and Sam Whitaker; by her son, Bobby Muehlenbeck; by three brothers, Ronald, Fredrick and James Jr. Medlin, and by two sisters, Jacqueline Gioia and Eleanor Kallmbah.

Shirley was a Christian and member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO. She made caring for her home and family her career in life and she never tired of her job. She loved animals and for many years, she and Harold had raised Beagle dogs and a variety of species of birds. She enjoyed sewing and liked to quilt with the ladies at Oak Grove Church. She was an avid reader and had a keen sense of humor. Her family was her pride and joy and she was happiest when she was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

A devoted and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Glenn Hammond officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Cemetery or to the charity of your choice.
