Evelyn Loretta McCarty, better known to her friends as Dolly, of Moselle, MO departed this life on December 12, 2018, having reached the age of eighty-eight years, eleven months and three days. Evelyn was born in Chicago, IL, on January 8, 1930, daughter of Anthony Francis Aloisio and Loretta May Aloisio nee Maroney. On January 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to Charles Patrick McCarty and eight children came to bless this union.
Evelyn is survived by four sons, Patrick McCarty and wife, MaryJo, of Washington, MO, John McCarty of Moselle, MO, Brian McCarty of Wardsville, MO and James McCarty and wife, Gretchen, of Union, MO; by two daughters, Mary Laubinger and husband, Jack, of Washington and Karen Wright and husband, Kevin, of Union; by her brother, Bill Aloisio and wife, Judy, of St. Charles, MO; by her brother-in-law, Thomas G. McCarty and wife, Clara, of St. Louis, MO; by her special friends, Diananna Barton of Union and Kathy Starr of Webster Groves, MO; by sixteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Loretta Aloisio; by her husband, Charles Patrick McCarty; by one son, Christopher D. McCarty, and by one daughter, Laura J. McCarty.
Evelyn was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Clare Catholic Church in St. Clair, MO. She was also a member of the Ladies Sodality and taught PSR classes at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Villa Ridge, MO. She is a graduate of Rosati-Kain Catholic High School, St. Louis. As a young woman, she was employed as a secretary at McDonnell Douglas Corporation in St. Louis, MO. She was a freelance journalist and also worked for newspapers in Franklin County. For many years, she co-owned and operated The Moselle Store in Moselle, MO, as well as serving as the last Moselle Postmaster. Evelyn was an outgoing lady with many hobbies and interests. When her children were young she served as a 4-H leader, teaching photography, sewing and quilting. She was a past member of the Piecemakers Quilt Club, as making quilts was one of her passions. She enjoyed gardening, raising African violets and going to flea markets and resale shops. Evelyn had a fondness for animals and always had dogs and cats as pets. Her family was her pride and joy and she cherished each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Much love was shared and many memories created which they will forever hold dear to their hearts.
A devoted and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation was held on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 12:00 to 8:00 PM with rosary services held at 7:00 PM. Funeral mass was held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 17, 2018, at St. Clare Catholic Church in St. Clair with the Rev. Eric Kunz and the Rev. Bob Knight officiating. Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in Villa Ridge, MO. Memorials may be made to SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital Foundation.
