Ernest Leroy Johnson, known to all as Leroy, of Union, MO, departed this life at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on September 13, 2018, having reached the age of sixty-two years, five months and nine days. Leroy was born in Washington, MO, on April 4, 1956, son of Ernest William Johnson, known to all as Bill, and Della Mae Fleming. On June 18, 1983, he was united in marriage to Joetta Lynn McDaniel and three sons came to bless this union.
Leroy is survived by his wife, Joetta Johnson of Union, MO; by his sons, Nathan Johnson, Nicholas Johnson and Travis Johnson and wife, Jessica, all of Union; by his mother, Della Fleming of St. Clair; by his brothers, Daryl Fleming of St. Louis, MO, Steve Keltz and wife, Rosie, of St. Louis and Billy Johnson of St. Louis; by his sisters, Mecia Williams of Charleston, SC, Cheryl Prelow of Dallas, TX, Marilyn Fleming of St. Louis, LaRuth Turner and husband, Royce, of Kansas City, MO, Carol Harris of Cape Girardeau, MO, Lynn Johnson of Rock Hill, MO and Joyce Johnson of Rock Hill; by two grandchildren, Ranasia Johnson of Vallejo, CA and Kingson Johnson of Union; he was like a grandpa to O'Shai Collins of Chicago, IL; by his best friend, first cousin and like a brother from his mother's twin, Glen Keith of St. Clair, MO; by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
Leroy was preceded in death by his father, Bill Johnson.
Leroy was a Christian and as a young man was baptized at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Robertsville, MO. During his working career he was employed by Daimler-Chrysler Corporation in Fenton, MO, retiring after thirty years of service. He was also a retiree of the United Auto Workers, Local 110 of Fenton, MO. Leroy had a variety of hobbies and interests throughout his life. He loved listening to music, watching sports and coaching his boys teams. Playing horse shoes and card games with his family and friends were favorite pastimes. What meant most to him was time spent with his family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will forever live in their hearts.
A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, nephew, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM Friday, September 21, 2018 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Rev. Clifford McDaniel officiating. Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Robertsville, MO.
