OBITUARY

George Oren Albietz of Grand Island, FL, formerly of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Washington, MO, on August 28, 2018, having reached the age of eighty-six years, six months and twenty-six days. George was born in St. Louis, MO, on February 2, 1932, son of Peter Aloysius Albietz and Pauline Nancy Esther Albietz nee Warfel. On June 15, 1951, he was united in marriage to Shirley Lee Heimrich and five children came to bless this union.

George is survived by his son, Thomas Albietz and wife, Margie, of Springfield, IL; by his daughters, Linda Dumbris and husband, Alan, of Berea, KY, Greta Franklin and husband, Gary, of St. Louis, MO, Christine Brown of Pittsburgh, PA and Cathy Molkenbur and husband, Carl, of St. Clair, MO; by fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Pauline Albietz; by his wife, Shirley Albietz, and by his sister, Mary VanNostran.

George was a Christian and past member of St. Clair United Methodist Church in St. Clair, MO. He began his military career at a young age in the Merchant Marines. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army, entering April 4,1951 to April 3,1963. He entered the Army National Guard from June 29, 1982 and retired on August 3, 1992 with a total of eighteen years of active duty and four years of reserves. He was a member and Past Master of Easter Lodge 575 AF & AM of St. Clair, MO, having been initiated April 25, 1995, passed June 20, 1995 and raised June 24, 1995 He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 96 of St. Clair. He furthered his education by attaining his Associates Degree in Business. George was an outgoing man that had worked in furniture sales in Illinois for many years. After moving to Missouri he was employed as a letter carrier in St. Charles, MO, retiring after ten years. He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards and enjoyed working in his garden. He especially enjoyed the companionship of his dogs. What meant most to him was time spent with his family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will forever live in their hearts.

A kind and loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with the Rev. Don Covington officiating. Interment with full military honors was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society.
