Norma Jean Knighten of St. Clair, MO, departed this life at her home in St. Clair on July 29, 2018, having reached the age of fifty-six years, eleven months and sixteen days. Norma was born in Malden, MO, on August 13, 1961, daughter of Leslie Barnett and Ruby Barnett nee Barnes. On February 14, 1983, she was united in marriage to David Francis Knighten and their families were joined as one.

Norma is survived by her husband, David Knighten of St. Clair, MO; by her son, Robert Janis, known to all as Joey, of St. Clair; by her step-son, David J. Knighten of Union, MO; by one sister, Sandy Brown and husband, Randy, of St. Louis, MO; by her sister-in-law, Kathy Knighten and husband, Tom Harris, of Fredericktown, MO; by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Ruby Barnett, and by one sister, Lisa Barnett.

Norma was a Christian, believing in the Lord as her Savior. During her working career she was employed for about twenty years at the Emmaus Home in Marthasville, MO, where she provided direct care to the residents and served as instructor for the ceramic classes. Norma had a very keen sense of humor, loved being outdoors watching the wildlife and keeping up on current events by watching the news on television. She was especially fond of animals and loved her little dog, Scruffy. What meant most was time spent with family. The love they shared and many memories they created will forever live in their hearts.

A kind and loving wife, mother, step-mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Committal services were held at 10:45 AM Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family of Norma Jean Knighten entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
