Bob had remained an active member of the church as long as his health allowed. During his working years, Bob was employed at Alton Box Company, later known as Jefferson Smurfit, in Pacific, MO, retiring after about thirty-five years. After his retirement, he took over the ownership Pierce Printing in St. Clair, MO, working until he was ninety-two and finally retiring after working the business for about thirty years. The business has been started by his father in 1940, first being named The Ozark News and then later renamed Clifton Publishing Company. Bob changed the name to Pierce Printing when he took ownership. He enjoyed doing carpenter work, even building his own house in St. Clair.
