Helen Maude Lewis of Tuscumbia, MO, formerly St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Tuscumbia on February 17, 2018, having reached the age of eighty-eight years, seven months and seventeen days. Helen was born in St. Clair, MO, on June 30, 1929, daughter of Lee Andrew Hawkins and Maude Louise Hawkins nee Jones. On April 16, 1948, she was united in marriage to Sherwood Earl Lewis and four children came to bless this union.

Helen is survived by her children, James E. Lewis and companion, Carol Womble, of Paducah, KY, Diane Lewis and companion, Rick Horsman, of Osage Beach, MO, Donald Lewis and companion, Donna Elliott, of Jefferson City, MO and Joseph Lewis of Moundridge, KS; by one brother, Harold Hawkins and wife, Vi, of St. Clair, MO; by nine grandchildren, Jimmy Lewis and girlfriend, Mary Jo Groves, Chrissy Fowler and husband, Chuck, Jason Hogan and wife companion, Charisse, Patty Gaffke, Josh Groves and wife, Stephanie, and Becky Noll and husband, Jason, by nine great-grandchildren, Alexis, Paige, Rhettley, Abby, Tori, Nikki, Brandon, Taylor and Xander; by two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Maude Hawkins; by her husband, Sherwood Lewis; by one sister, Hannah Lee Hawkins, and by one grandson, Ryan Carter.

Helen was a Christian having been raised in the Methodist faith. She and her family had lived in Florrisant, MO, moving to Jefferson City, MO, in 1971. During her working years, she was employed by the Missouri State Employees Credit Union in Jefferson City. In 1981, she and her husband moved to Bucklin, MO, where she enjoyed rural living. Helen was an avid reader throughout her life. She was a talented seamstress and sewing various projects was a favorite pastime. She and her family enjoyed boating and although she couldn't swim, she was outgoing enough to try to learn to water ski. Many wonderful memories were created with her family during her life. Her greatest treasures were her children and grandchildren and the many wonderful times spent creating memories with her family was what made her the happiest.

A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. John Hampton, Jr. officiating. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to Elmwood Cemetery, Lonedell, MO.
