Elmer Daniel Babb, known to all as Danny, of St. Clair, MO, formerly St. Louis, MO, departed this life at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on October 2, 2017, having reached the age of seventy-five years and twelve days. Danny was born in Banner, AR, on September 20, 1942, son of Mr. Babb and Flossie P. Babb nee Brackett. As a young woman he was united in marriage and blessed to have two daughters. In 1972, he was united in marriage to Mary Turner nee Morlan and their families were joined as one. On October 27, 2006, he was united in marriage to Lena Maxine Turner Guese nee Sohn, known to all as Maxine, and their families were joined as one.
Danny is survived by his wife, Maxine Babb of St. Clair, MO; by two sons, Rickie Turner and wife, Donna, of St. Clair and Richard Turner of St. Clair; by three daughters, Barbara Ackfeld of House Springs, MO, Rebecca Faries of St. Louis, MO and Louri Turner of St. Clair; by five grandchildren, Josh Busiek of St. Louis, Lauren Hopperton of St. Clair, Jacob Turner of St. Louis, Nicholas Turner of Florida and Brandon Faries of St. Louis; by one great-grandchild; by his sister-in-law, Carol Sohn and companion, Joe, of Festus, MO; by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Babb and Flossie Babb; by one sister, Odean McKay, and by one grandchild, Jessie Faries.
Danny was a Christian of the Lutheran faith and member of Timothy Lutheran Church in St. Louis, MO. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Navy, entering March 11, 1960 and receiving his discharge on September 12, 1963. He returned to the St. Louis area after his discharge and for thirty-three years was employed as a driver for Laclede Cab Company in St. Louis. He was also a past member of Teamsters Local 688 of St. Louis. After his retirement he moved to the St. Clair area. Danny enjoyed many hobbies and interests during his life but was especially fond of playing pool and had the reputation of being a pool shark. Bowling was another of his hobbies, as was playing computer games. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Simpsons and watching horse races. He enjoyed listening to music, Elvis Presley being his favorite artist. He was happiest when he was spending time with his children and grandchildren and many wonderful memories have been created.
A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Committal services with full military honors was held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at St. Matthew's Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, with the Rev. Ron Rall officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, MO.
