OBITUARY

Clara Marie Spradling of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Washington, MO, on July 24, 2017, having reached the age of ninety-one years, four months and twenty-nine days. Clara was born in Moselle, MO, on February 25, 1926, daughter of Bernard Henry Lindemann and Matilda Caroline Lindemann nee Unnerstall. As a young woman she was united in marriage and blessed to have four children. On February 28, 1966, she was united in marriage to Harry Eugene Spradling, known to all as Gene, and they were blessed to have twenty years together.

Clara is survived by her sons, Monty Perkins and wife, Ronda, of Eureka, MO, Tom Perkins and wife, Karla, of St. Clair, MO, and Mickey Perkins and wife, Terri, of St. Clair; by her daughter, Darlene Leroney and husband, Jim, of St. Clair; by her sister, Angela Hagedorn, known to all as Angie, of St. Clair; by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great, great-great and great-great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Matilda Lindemann; by her husband, Gene Spradling; by her brother, Victor Lindemann, and by two sisters, Ann Hanneken and Marian Donner.

Clara was a Christian and life time member of the St. Clare Catholic Church in St. Clair, MO. During her working career she was employed as an operator and clerk for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, then later at AT&T, retiring after thirty years with the company. She started out at the local facility in St. Clair, then moved to the Union, MO facility and later moved to the facility in St. Louis, MO. She was a proud member of the local chapter of Communication Workers of America, as well as a lifetime member of The Telephone Pioneers. Hobbies and interests included quilting, embroidering and crocheting. Many of her pieces have become treasured family heirlooms. She loved to travel, was a wonderful cook and liked working in her yard, especially cutting brush. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and rarely missed watching a game. Her family was her life and her children and grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Her grandchildren were truly her pride and joy and she loved being Grandma to each of them.

A loving and devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great, great-great and great-great-great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral mass was held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 28, 2017, at St. Clare Catholic Church in St. Clair, MO with Father Eric Kunz officiating. Interment was in Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union, MO. In lieu of flowers masses are preferred. The family of Clara Spradling entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
