He was currently an active member and past trustee of American Legion Post 347 in St. Clair, MO. He was a member of the Legion Card Club and enjoyed the fellowship of the many friends he played cards with. Jack was a cowboy at heart and he was only fifteen years old when he left home to ride bulls and broncs in the Professional Rodeo Circuit and continued to do so for about five years.
