Melvin Edgar Whited, Sr., known to m any as Butch, of Washington, MO, formerly St. Clair, MO, departed this life in St. Louis on March 30, 2017, having reached the age of seventy years, seven months and twenty-six days. Melvin was born in Ironton, MO, on August 4, 1946, son of Alonzo Edgar Whited and Mildred Maxine Whited nee Mercer, known to all as Maxine. On October 5, 1964, he was united in marriage to Linda Fay Inman and three children came to bless this union.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Linda Whited of Washington, MO; by one son, Melvin Whited, Jr. and wife, Sandy, of Washington; by two daughters, Angela Stahlman and husband, Greg, of Rolla, MO, and Anita Melton and husband, Greg, of Owensville, MO; by four grandchildren, Ethan Stahlman of Rolla, Tyler and Linda Melton of Owensville and Addison Whited of Washington; by his step-mother, Ona Whited of Ironton, MO; by three brothers, Paul Whited, James Whited, known to all as Junior, and wife, Kathy, and Stanley Whited and wife, Lucretia, all of Ironton; by one sister, Roberta Crider and huband, Dan, of Washington; by aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Alonso and Maxine Whited, and by two brothers, Roy, known to all as Denny, and infant, Lon Richard Whited.

Melvin was a Christian and member of St. Clair Southern Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO. During his working years, he was employed by Chrysler Daimler Corporation in Fenton, MO, retiring after thirty years. He was also a member and retiree of the United Auto Workers, Local 110 of Fenton, MO. Melvin was an outdoorsman at heart and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Boating with family and friends was a favorite pastime, as was riding his motorcycle. Nothing made him happier than the time he spent with his children and grandchildren, as they were truly his pride and joy.

A devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, step-son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Bill Savage officiating. Interment was held at 2:00 PM at Cove Cemetery in Ironton, MO. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
