OBITUARY

Robert Charles Butenhoff, Jr., known to most as Bob, of Lonedell, MO, departed this life at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on October 12, 2016, having reached the age of eighty-eight years, eight months and eleven days. Bob was born in St. Louis, MO, on January 31, 1928, son of Robert Charles Butenhoff, Sr. and Marcella Butenhoff nee Gable. In 1934, he moved to Lonedell, MO to be raised by his grandparents, George and Florence Medina. On July 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to Eva Marie Lefler and five children came to bless this union.

Bob is survived by his wife, Eva Butenhoff of Lonedell, MO; by his children, Michele Brown Jones and husband, Roger, of Washington, MO; Lance Butenhoff and wife, LaDonna, of Union, MO; Kirk Butenhoff of Lonedell, Renee Tlapek and husband, Paul, of Cape Girardeau, MO and Craig Butenhoff and wife, Stephanie, of Lonedell; by seven grandchildren, Megan Sanders and husband, Joshua, of St. Louis, MO, Meredith Carter and husband, Kevin, of Osage Beach, MO, Nathan Butenhoff and wife, Amanda, of Washington, Kristen Bruns and husband, Chris, of St. Clair, MO, Ben Tlapek of Cape Girardeau and Cole and Cyle Butenhoff of Lonedell; his half sister, Delores Brown and husband, Robert, of Union; by his sister-in-law, Sandy Lefler of St. Clair; by seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. Butenhoff, Sr. and Marcella Butenhoff Fuchs; by his grandparents, George and Florence Medina; by his son-in-law, Michael Brown; by a grandson, Mark-Robert Wayne Brown; by his special aunt, Florence Butenhoff Niewoehner, and by his brother-in-law, Ralph E. Lefler.

When Bob was living with Gram and Gramp Medina, he attended and graduated from Rockford Grade School. He later attended St. Clair High School, riding Woody's bus to get to school, and graduated in 1946.

Bob was a Christian and lifelong active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO. He has served as a Deacon for forty-four years and was a Past Trustee of the church. Bob was proud to have served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force, entering August 3, 1946 and receiving his honorable discharge on August 2, 1949. After his discharge Bob worked for Ford Motor Company for few years and then he made his career serving others as a firefighter. In the 1960s he volunteered at the Lonedell Volunteer Fire Department, as well as the St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department. In 1957 he began his employment at the Clayton Fire Department in Clayton, MO, serving as Captain for many years. He retired in April of 1989 after thirty-two years of service.

Bob had enjoyed many hobbies and interests during his life, but camping on the Meramec River with his family was his favorite. He enjoyed fishing and hunting deer, squirrels and rabbits. He especially enjoyed these hobbies when his family went with him. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he cherished the time they spent together.

A devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, half brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him

. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO, with the Rev. Chauncey Clay officiating. Interment with full military honors was held in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Backstoppers, Inc. The family entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, MO.
