George William Selz of Lonedell, MO, departed this life at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on March 28, 2016, having reached the age of seventy-five years, one month and twenty-two days. George was born in St. Louis, MO, on February 6, 1941, son of Alphonse A. Selz and Violet Selz nee Hartung. As a young man he was united in marriage and blessed to have five children. On April 14, 1987, he was united in marriage to Joyce Ann Elliott and their families were joined as one.

George is survived by his children, William Selz and wife, Kathy, of Wildwood, MO, Tony Selz and wife, Wendy, of Lonedell, MO, Nicholas Selz and wife, Christina, of St. Clair, MO, Christopher Selz of Bourbon, MO and Michelle Crabtree of St. Clair; by two step-children, John Vermette of Valley Park, MO and Tonya Bausch and husband, Eugene, of Pacific, MO; by his sister, Anna Mae Gaehle of Ballwin, MO; by seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse and Violet Selz; by his wife, Joyce Selz; by his son-in-law, Frank Crabtree; by his granddaughter, Sarah Crabtree, and by his infant twin brothers.

George was a Christian believing in the Lord as his Savior. In 1962, George started his business, G. W. Selz and Sons Excavating located in Lonedell, MO. He enjoyed his work and was a very talented heavy equipment operator, having bought his first tractor when he was sixteen. He had also worked for Breckenridge Concrete in St. Louis, MO, for some years and was a member of Teamsters Local 682 of St. Louis, MO. George was an outdoorsman at heart and spent most of his time outside enjoying nature. Hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes, especially when his family went with him. Gardening and caring for his yard were other hobbies he enjoyed. What meant most to him was time spent with his family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will live in their hearts forever.

A kind and loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Jamie Haguewood officiating. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to Elmwood Cemetery.
